Teaching

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds); Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ
2 Corinthians 10:3

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you have enlisted in a battle. Not many Christians actually realise this.

According to Ephesians 6:10-18 we are not fighting with actual flesh and blood people, (although it often would seem that way) but instead, we are told that we WRESTLE against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

So this sounds like a tricky kind of a battle we have to fight. So what sort of weapons do we fight with?

The Weapons God has given us to use are spoken or sung with our mouths:

  • The Word of God

  • The Blood of Jesus

  • The Name of Jesus

  • Praise

Ps 8:1,2 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

Matt 21:15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, 16And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

Praise - Silences the Enemy and the Avenger (Satan)

- Brings God’s strength to bear

Ps 149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand; 7To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; 8To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Praise - Binds up and restrains the enemies of God.

Praise that incorporates the other weapons of God is an even more powerful force.

So who qualifies to be able to defeat these powerful enemies?

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

So first we must be submitted to God. Then we must RESIST the devil, by standing firm on what God has told us to do, and using the spoken weapons of our warfare against him.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
